TAMPA BAY - Sources have confirmed that businesswoman and supermodel Gisele Bundchen has formally filed papers to retire from her marriage to Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
The filing in a Tampa courtroom Friday morning comes on the heels of a tumultuous marital career for Bundchen, who is reported to have been contemplating this retirement for months.
The aging businesswoman has been struggling for some time with knowing when to hang up her wedding ring and move on to the next phase of her life.
Sources say that she's been putting in longer hours than ever into her marriage while having less and less success, as Brady continues to be focused on football, and has acknowledged that she's curious about what other, more fulfilling pursuits may be out there.
"At her age, the body and mind can only take so much marital wear and tear," a doctor explained.
She said she advises patients like Bundchen that "for your own health and well-being, you have to think about what is really important and what you want the second half of your life to look like. You can only play this game for so long - that's just science."
Indeed, recent reports indicate that Bundchen has been experiencing increasingly serious marriage-related injuries over the past year since her husband retired and then unretired from playing professional football.
"She always seems to have a headache from rolling her eyes so much," a close friend explained.
Others have reported that she has severe repetitive motion injuries in both shoulders from frequently throwing her arms up in frustration.
While this marks the end of a storied marriage for Bundchen, the family breadwinner who continues to bring in over ten million dollars per year is poised to enjoy a comfortable retirement.
As for her now ex-husband Brady, given his recent career woes, he may be facing two forced retirements in one year.
End of the Bench will have more as this story develops.
